Smoke detectors & Paint

Just wired in several new detectors at my sisters house. They of course don't match the painted ceilings. I know it's not OK to paint detectors. I'm assuming that the drying/curing agents in the paint might cause damage as the paint dries. Anyone ever consider removing the electronics, paint the enclosure then wait till drying is done to assemble?

Thanks

Not my job to worry about it and I would not go thru the trouble.

Right here.
People that stress about what color their smoke detectors are have way too much time on their hands. They need to have a real problem.

Are they for use in the US?

.au indicates it is in Australia.

The pdf shows the voltage at 220-240v @ 50Hz.

Picky Picky

You got a problem with Australia?

I just saw some at the supply house recently but I do not remember the brand. I just Googled for low profile smoke and assumed I found the right one.

Luckily for me they have plenty of time - and money :D Which works out nice for me during this "slow period' we are all dealing with.

Thanks for the info Bob. I'm sure I'll be changing out 6 new detectors now.

Problem is, (my sister will point out) they still wont match the ceiling color.

what does low profile have to do with the color not matching?

Just throwing out another option, I would not personally paint smoke alarms so I would try to find another solution.

Perhaps the low profile one will be less of an eyesore to the woman of the house.

Definetly. I should have known better and googled "low profile" before the install. They do look nice. The house is a Frank lloyd Wright designed home on 230' of lakeshore.

Everythings gotta be perfect.

This made me think of my last quote I did for a guy. Quick story: He has an OH service, wants to put a shed in his back yard. Service is about 10' from grade. Shed is going to be 11'. POCO greenbook requires 2' of clearance - so we have to raise the service drop.

I give him 2 options: add a new mast to attach the drop to, then wires go down to old mast.

Or replace the mast with a taller one.

He asked [regarding the first one] "Will that be ugly?" I just kind of looked at him. he then said "if it is going to be ugly, we cant do it, my wife wont tolerate it"

I found it funny that someone that allready has an OH service, power, catv and 2 phone drops attaching to his house, with meter combo, 2 phone boxes and a catv box attached to the side of his house would have an issue with a second taller mast.

I am going to try to talk him into option 3: attaching some strut to the existing mast to raise the insulator - saving him money and me a lot of "unnecessary" work.
