Re: smoke detectors

Can yoube more specific? I assume you really mean smoke alarm?

If local codes permit, smoke alarms can be installed between 4 and 12 inches from the ceiling or other wall intersections.

Re: smoke detectors

I was taught in an NFPA 72 class that although smoke detectors are allowed to be installed on walls, they work more effectively when they are installed on the ceiling. Almost all hotels I have been in have the sprinklers mounted on the walls

Re: smoke detectors

Sometimes a wall is the best place to install a smoke detector,we do one 2 story model that has a curved staircase and to cover the bottom of the stairs here within 10 ft.it is the only place to install one.Another model has a hall to 2 bedrooms and a bathroom and a return air register and a pocket door. The only way to stay 3 ft from the bathroom door and the return vent is to mount it on the wall.I tell our guys to rough them in 6 in from ceiling and we haven`t had a problem :D
