Smoke Detectors

Does anyone know of a manufacturer of smoke detectors that offers them in brown/black? I have a builder who put a cherry beam ceiling in a bedroom and does not like the look of the white smoke on the ceiling. I have asked my supplier to check with Firex if the smoke could somehow be painted but have not heard back. Any suggestions?

Maybe the sharpies fumes would interfere with the smoke detector

designer colors for smokes... could be a market for them. Get a color assortment of those Sharpies, Stick!

Haven't seen any. However, I thought the Sharpie idea was a good one. You can also use shoe polish to color the plastic housing. The down side about doing this is in the replacement. Somewhere down the line this detector may have to be replaced and getting an identical one or coloring the new one may not come out the same way as the original.

I know for a fact that EST offers an intelligent smoke detector that is also available in a black finish. They list movie theatres as an example for the application. This is the "SIGA-IPHS" type detector. Unfortunately i couldn't find a page on the website relating to the black finish of the detector, so no link.

Just my opinion: if I were the manufacturer of smokes, I would never approve painting them, for fear of liability.
