Smoke Exhaust Fans

Can MC cable be used to feed Smoke Exhaust Fans or must conduit be used? I'm having trouble getting a finite answer to this.

I believe 330.12 says no, under section b... because if I am right, smoke is considered caustic... but I could be wrong...

When you say "smoke exhaust" do you mean "smoke control" during a fire event, "smoke purge" after a fire event, or nuisance smoke removal for a process of some kind (cooking, machining, welding, etc)?

It will depend on jurisdiction, but smoke control usually requires 2-hour survivability (VitaLink cable or equal), while smoke purge can use less restrictive wiring methods (MC, RMC). Smoke control is a life-safety process, smoke purge is not.
