Smoke/monoxide detectors

I’m in New York, do I need to tie my 1st floor smoke/monoxide detectors to the basement apartment detectors?

Not sure about your jurisdiction but up here they are requiring interconnected smoke/co between units in Multifamily dwellings on remodel and new construction.

Smoke alarms are usually wired solely to each dwelling unit not interconnected between units.

Unless they've explicitly adopted this rule, and not just a "vest pocket rule", it's a violation of the building code. I'll hunt it down later.

But then it would depend on what building code is used. Here in New York state I think they have their own building code, I don't know if it is partly / mostly copied from another standard building code.

Some are exact quotes, other parts are by reference, then there is parts by legislation then individual municipalities have criteria that add to the requiremens. Making it difficult to know for sure.
