Hi guys, Can someone tell me what is the best way to wire smokes and co?
Do they need home runs or tied to another circuit? All is going ok with my 2 family.

do not know the code in your area here I like them on their own circuit..but some install them on a lighting circuit and some are required that way..

I usually tie them to a hall light circuit so if the light does not work it will serve as a warning.

edit: Don't forget to tie them to AFs if necessary.

Generally they are tied to an existing cir. as in the bedroom cir since they will need to be on an arc fault circuit. Assuming residence here...

You also need to run a 3 wire cable between the units.

Best I can say is follow all local building codes and manufacture directions.

I usually run mine on a seperate circuit andjump fom the last one with a 14/2to where ever the alarm guy needs his power supply. Always on an AFCI because they are in the bedrooms.

Okay, i'll bite, why isn't the alarm guy installing LV smokes?
