I have a question regarding the definition of a Snap Switch.

Specifically regarding 408.36 (A)

Is the snap switch it refers to - a common breaker?

It means an ordinary (toggle) switch.

What a DIY'er would call a light switch. But of course, we don't use such slang here:)

I could not help myself. I had to straighten the screws and fix the plate. I should have painted the screws but I got lazy

Now After the obvious answers...

ok then, how long ago has it been that panels were built with 'light switches' in them?

408.36 (A) Panelboards equipped with snap switches rated at 30 amperes or less shall have overcurrent protection of 200 amperes or less.

I have never seen a 'light switch' in a panel.

can someone explain this code section to me please?

Eons ago, it was common to have a panel with fuses and a switch for each circuit. I've got a pix, I just can't find it.
