As many on you know.. ice buildup on flat roofs has been a front page news story lately...

Since we have plenty of power going to the RTU units.. has anyone come across ice melting systems that can be used to eliminate having to break out the shovels...

Well, there's lots of products out there for this. Problem is, you have to consider the capital cost and maintenance costs against how often it is a problem.
In my own home I have issues from time to time with gutters and downspouts. Except for 1 that was really an issue do to shading, I choose to not put snow melt in due to the maintenance issues.

I should of said for commercial buildings.. residential products are great or gutters..

My goal is to find a product for flat commercial roofs...

I know what you meant. It was just an example.
There are lots of products out there. There are copper heating mat products that I have used. Kind of pricey and complicated though. One problem though is that many commercial roofs have warranties that limit what you can do.
