snubber diode sizing

Is there a rule for sizing the suppression diode on a 24VDC coil for a starter or contactor? I'm getting some bigger ones that have quite a bit on inrush and I assume the transients will be more substantial than the others used in the past.

I don't see anything on the brochure that says one is built in, and my question has not been answered by the manufacturer. The same 24V runs other things that I don't want to get a spike.

Hey, its not my money but it is my time.

I just order the correct add-on device from the contactor/starter manufacturer. No brains involved in selecting it and no problem mounting it.

I believe Telemecanique has "potted"snubbers(approx.$20-$30) that can be used on any mfrs. relays/contactors.Good Luck:smile:
