In order to maintain Emergency Lighting circuits connected to a disabled, soon to be replaced generator, we are going to add a temporary UL 924 inverter. This will be fed via the main switchboard and then connected to the existing panel which will be disconnected for the time being from the generator.

Can I do this per Article 590? Does 590 allow for or is it otherwise permissible to feed both the UPS and then the panel via SO cord. If so, what are the rules regarding how this is supported, if any?

That said over 40 amps we would likely use aluminum SER it costs much less than SO.

Another note, when we do this we place a rental generator on site and wire it in to the ATS start contacts.

Purchasing an inverter for short term use would be expensive.
