SO cord in class I div I group D

I checked on the code book 501.10A2 and 501.140 and it looks like as long as i use a seal CGB i can use just standerd SO. It just doesn't seam right. I found some Seal CGB.

Look at the second page, the smallest size was under $45.00 this seems rather cheap for anything in a classified area.

I don't see any restrictions on the type of cord that can be used, but the use of cord is limited by 501.140. There are not that many applications that meet the restrictions imposed in 501.140.

501.140(B)(1) states " listed for extra-hard usage" for the cord. I didn't think standard SO cord is listed as this. I believe STOOW is.

You are correct, I skipped right over that part. Table 400.4 lists the use of flexible cords. SO is listed for extra hard usage in that table along with a number of other cord types including STOOW.

we meet the requirements of 501.140. It just seems wrond to put cord in that envoriment.

Assuming all other conditions of Section 501.140 are met, Type SO meets the requirements of 501.140(B)(1); but consider the fact that SO is only recogonized for "Damp Locations" and most Classificed locations are outdoors (Wet Location)
