Observation: Ever wonder why all the illustrations for mega services? Why not show an illustration for a typical 200Amp, or 400Amp service. What about a 75kva or 150kva transformer--not the big 500kva units most electricians don't see!

Just an observation!

Total guess here.

I imagine that they choose the larger installations so they can include the code rules that apply to parallel conductor installations.

An example is figuring the GEC size when running parallel conductors etc.

I'm not at all familiar with the Soares book, but if they are illustrating NEC applications, then the principles should be the same for the smaller services, just with smaller conductors.

I think the problem is that most electricians don't understand that the most important connection for metallic non-current carrying parts is back to the source, and not the earth. Once that concept gets widely taught in the industry, a lot of confusion about grounding and bonding will go away.

A couple of guesses:
  • If you've bothered to buy the Soares book, you're likely already well into the trade and have the simple services down pat.
  • If you can get your head around the most complicated, screwed up services, the rest will be cake.
