Exterior. We been running MC in the flutes of the decking on the interior. I was asked to rough in the outside part. My plan was to pipe it but of coarse, this is unpleasing to the eye. So I told the GC I need to order some MC w/ THWN because it's a damp location. Am I wrong?
 
It's basically a huge open porch. The way I see it, when its raining or whirling snow is blowing, there will be water around the area. It's about 20 feet high and 20' by 200' in area. Just a basic decking roof with steel beams for posts. Totally open to weather from my point of view.


And, yes there is a overhang. :)

After looking up THHN, I was wrong even if it is concidered a damp location, THHN is suitable for damp locations. And I'm still learning :) :D
 
MC usually has dual rated wire thhn/thwn however the jacket is not ok in wet.Your location is atleast damp.Is it likely that rain itself will hit the wire ?
If yes then its wet but i rather dought rain will hit it.I would check with your inspector on his take on this.

Location, Damp.
Locations protected from weather and not subject to saturation with water or other liquids but subject to moderate degrees of moisture. Examples of such locations include partially protected locations under canopies, marquees, roofed open porches, and like locations, and interior locations subject to moderate degrees of moisture, such as some basements, some barns, and some cold-storage warehouses.

Location, Dry. A location not normally subject to dampness or wetness. A location classified as dry may be temporarily subject to dampness or wetness, as in the case of a building under construction

Location, Wet. Installations under ground or in concrete slabs or masonry in direct contact with the earth; in locations subject to saturation with water or other liquids, such as vehicle washing areas; and in unprotected locations exposed to weather

Celtic, I still disagree with you. This location is not directly exposed to weather, but will still be subject to moisture. Haven't you ever seen a fixture installed under a porch roof slowly rusting away?:smile:
