After reading the California code 706.5 about solar storage batteries I can understand that if you used OTHER than lead acid batteries all materials has to be listed.
Does that also mean that all batteries EXCEPT lead acid batteries has to be listed also ?
 
It's not just CA, that's an NEC requirement. Lead acid batteries don't have to be listed, other types of batteries do. There is a push in the NEC and related standards to require the use of listed self-contained BESS. There is a carve-out in that for lead acid BESS since that has a long history in off-grid residential use.
