I have a customer considering solar system

They want to change the utility drop from their house to the barn in order to accamodate solar system, more room for solar panels, but feed home from barn. I stated that then the homes panels will need to be converted to sub panels and neutrals and grounds separated since the first main will be in the barn, and that the full load of the home will have to be considered in feeding the home from the solar system which I believe is 100 amp minimum per NEC the home is currently 100 amp. The customer stated they want full solar system. My question is NEC requires 100 amp service minimum for residence but the home may be more like 17k, so do you size to the NEC for the home or size to solar company. I do generators but I size to largest load that could possibly be needed per NEC but solar is saying 10kw is what is needed. Does anybody have any thoughts on this

thankyou

The customer may be confused about how it all works.

There is no need to power the home from the location of the solar system. Reconfiguring the service location sounds unnecessary and more expensive than just bring the solar back to the existing service.

That's my best guess from here.

How is the barn currently fed? Or does it not have power?

I use 230.40 exception #3 frequently with a meter on a pedestal, then you can keep everything service conductors and 3 wire - not necessarily saying that's necessary or worth doing in your case, perhaps more details and/or a sketch would provide more meaningful advice.
