I have installed two solar Photovoltaic Systems exclusively for heating swimming pools. These were interactive systems that worked in parallel with the house supply.
According to the owner, the system costs about 450% more than a typical pool heater installation, but the manufacturer guaranteed a 100% return in less than 5 years over energy costs.
This is Florida however, and we get over 300 days per year of sunshine. I am not completely familiar with Indiana's yearly weather.
