Solar PV is it an SDS

Certainly a PV off grid system with inverter is an SDS.
What about a grid tied system. Are they SDS sometimes, always or never?
 
Tom they can be either, however if you read 690.47 Both AC and DC systems are required to be connected the GES. So it is really a moot point.

One grid-tied application, hybrid, you would certainly want configured as SDS. A hybrid inverter is capable of taking multiple sources of input power. For example grid tied with battery back up. When the POCO power fails, the inverter disconnects from the grid and operates from battery.
