For Christmas I asked for and got a book written by a CIA psych guy who analyzed the personality of world leaders. It was his job.

Right out of DSM-IV, the first choice for world leader (and what politician does not want to be one?) was narcissistic, the second obsessive and third (but not in an open society), paranoid.

Once you know what to look for, I realize I have already met many people in each of these categories of Personality Disorders. Coworkers, party guests, bosses, etc..

If it is a contest between putting a tiny dent in a politician's vanity and soldiers dying, how many must die? (Hint: to put an upper bound on the answer, there are about 6^9 people in the world).

Vanity trumps almost everything.

E = IR, and Power + vanity = bad things for everyone else.

That is disgusting. I know our military die in war - but please, not in the shower by electrocution!
I find a problem in placing fault though. I have worked with many KBR and Halliburton electricians, and can not remember any having impressed me with their work or knowledge. Some may have - I just don't remember.
Constructing a home or a factory has this in common: a price is put on what someone is willing to pay. A contractor then may purchase the material and labor within the constraints of that price.
If the wages are then necessarily low the quality of the craftsman will suffer. Highly qualified craftsman are always in demand, and will have the higher paying jobs.
Those less qualified end up working for some of these low bid, large contstructors, who often are the only companies who are able to man these larger projects.
They get what they pay for, or can afford to pay for. Usually they get the less experienced who see this as an oppurtunity to make big money.
What can we do?
Fire and jail the responsible electrician..
Fire and jail the responsible supervisor....
Fire and jail the inspector......
Fire and jail the project manager.....
Fire and jail everyone !!!!!!
Bankrupt and jail the company.....

Require registered training, licenses', testing. There are lots of electricians who wire residential and commercial who would be completely lost in an industrial or trouble shooting environment, and that goes the other way too!

It does not matter that pump motor was made in China. "I would never buy a motor made in China". But, no matter where it was made the protection system should have tripped it off line. If the electricians had done their job correctly that soldier would be alive.
