talking to my wholesale house last week, and was getting the name
of the service they use for their 10 day notices and related contract
administration, and in addition to a good service, i got this story....

there was a customer....... who had a project, and the owners of
the project were three separate LLC's operating from the EXACT
SAME PHYSICAL AND MAILING ADDRESS..... with very similar
names.

the service served one ten day notice, figuring the names
were duplicates. they were not. it was an intentional plan
to evade paying for services rendered.

most of the subs did the same thing.. one notice... one address.

the owner reneged on payment, and used the argument that
notices were not properly served on all owners to successfully
block liens and legal challenges.

the electrical contractor went bankrupt, along with the general
and a couple other major subs. supply houses did the same thing,
one 10 day notice letter, and ate material bills as well.

be very very thorough in your dealings, and take the time to cross the t's.
it's a fugly marketplace out there right now.

The recent furor over a certain "film" has really brought to light the ways some folks play the system.

In this instance, the gent who madethe "film" was operating under a variety of names, most of them 'derived' from his real name. Or, at least, the name on his passport. Among other things, he used these aliases to claim to be someone and something he was not.

Unfortunalely, we do not have the resources of government nor the voice of the popular press coming to our aid when we're hustled. Instead, we have some bored judge who's not all that concerned whether we get paid.

Nor is this 'name game' accidental. While many of the circumstances are beyond the scope of this forum, the result is we teach these folks to cheat us.
