Sometimes a few inches is important

Hi all. We usually see panelboards - like 400/42 or 225/42 that are installed with a few inches between them. Like this pic

They are 20" wide (i think).
On occasion that space between panels is precious.

Does anyone ever install with NO SPACE between the panels?? It could save a few inches.

Yes, as long as the panel covers don't overlap. Sometimes one stud width is enough, sometimes not.
 
I agree keep spacing just wide enough for the covers to butt against each other. If there is no flange on the cover then you can bolt the panel cabinets together.
