Im still frustrated over the whole AFCI code. I could understand if they tripped on a series arc, but they only trip on parallel arc.....kinda like every other breaker. Is there any proof out there that these things can or will save lives? I need to see proof or at least a good example. Anyone?

Re: sorry for beating a dead horse.

People were saying the same thing about GFCI requirements 30 years ago. Over time and development, GFCI's now have a proven track record of safety and protection. Give the AFCI technology a chance. I for one think that they are a good start to a big problem. :)

Definitive: Here is a link to a AFCI Summary on UL's website. UL Summary on AFCI's

Scroll down to page 5 and you will find that the Branch Feeder type of AFCI breakers commonly available today will trip on a series arc if it occurs somewhere on the branch feeder circuit. They will not trip (or at least they are not Listed to trip) on cord set series arcs
