I've heard it said that the vast majority of electrocutions in this country are caused by 120V. Does anyone have a source for that? I am trying to prepare something and want to be able to back up my assertion.

Thanks,

I do not have a source but think about it. What current are most people subjected to? That'll give you the why to the question.

Don't you know that 72% of statistics are wrong? :D

If you're including non-trade electrocutions, it's probably true because 120v is all most people are exposed to.

It's kinda like saying most electrocutions in the UK are caused by 230v (or are they at 240v now?)

If you Google "electricutions in the USA" there is a lot of stuff there.

Did you mean: electrocutions in the USA Top 2 results shown

I use Google to spellcheck all the time

Certainly it makes logical sense because of the prevalance of that voltage. This sprang from power outages in this area after a big spring storm and people thinking that transfer switches were not necessary for generators (a very small minority were voicing this opinion). It sort of evolved into the number of times that I've had an HO tell me "I don't mind messing with 120, but that 220 stuff scares me". I was trying to find a source for this stat that seems like common sense to help bolster my arguement.

The CPSC does keep an injury database; located here.

Unfortunately it is generalized in that any injury has to be classified, and anything that is any way electrically related is typically classified as electrocution. They don't get much more specific than that. Some of the comments within each record go into more detail though.
