flagger - 5.85@40 hrs/ per week = $234/week - social security, state , federal and whatever else can be stolen from this person = maybe $195.00 if they are lucky
probably dont get better than ten miles per gallon in a car that wage will buy so this person probably chooses food or gas some weeks
just playing devils advocate but a flagger holds a sign that says "stop" on one side and "slow" on the other,just how much skill and training does this require? As for fuel I would say car pool.

i won't disagree with you there. there's a person for every job and every wage. i just wanted to point out to another forum member here what wages were in this area.

my uncle started out as a flagman for one of the largest paving companies in our area when he was 18 yrs old. 20 years later, he's now the head of the paving division and runs all the major projects.

I was surprised however at the wages for the ironworkers and heavy equipment operators.

Confession:
We (a buddy and me) caused a fender bender at a crossing while we were flagging....why?
Young and bored.

"Please don't feed the workers. If they get used to eating they'll want to do it every day."

What is really sad about those wages is that there are some fast food resturants around here that start at $8.00 p/hr.

According to the US Dept. of Labor, "Eighteen States do not have prevailing wage laws. These States are Alabama, Arizona, Colorado, Florida, Georgia, Idaho, Iowa, Kansas, Louisiana, Mississippi, New Hampshire, North Carolina, North Dakota, Oklahoma, South Carolina, South Dakota, Utah, and Virginia."

Now I did find on the State of Georgia website some Area Occupational Wages. Here's South Georgia.
http://explorer.dol.state.ga.us/mis/wages/pdfwages/south.pdf
Electrician = $18.15/hr
Bachelor's Degree = $23.13
Master's Degree = $23.75
Doctoral Degree = $23.37

Good to see that education paying off.
