This is an existing situation, which we are hired to bring to code:
Small enclosed back yard, with rigid conduit run from basement about 16 in. high along side and rear walls of yard. Total of 4 switched receptacles in weatherproof boxes, 2 on side wall and 2 on rear wall. At each location, a hideous gooseneck fixture (which the HO loves) set in cement and standing only about 3 ft. off ground. Fixtures fed by 4 ft. length of SO cord which plugs into switched receptacle.
What we'll change: GFI protect whole thing, surprisingly or should I say shockingly, it presently is not. Change to SOW cord, provide rubber grommet where exiting light. Change old-style mulberry flip up covers to bubble covers. Cords will get right-angle male ends.
Does anyone see a problem with this now ? Also, due to fact that boxes are in some places about 3 feet from fixture, I would lead the SOW cord along conduit with tie wraps, give it a drip loop before receptacle. I feel this is safer than along ground (existing) or hanging slightly above ground as one of our associates suggested.
Thanks for your thoughts !
