I want to be sure I understand this right , On what the code calls a spa, there must be a gfci recpt between 6 and 10 ft of tub. But on a regular interior jet tub with heat like they sell at big blue and orange, the code only says any recept within 5 ft of tub must be GFCI but does not give a min distance from the tub or say that a recept is required.

There is no difference from a hydromassage tub and a regular tub other than the gfci protection and possible bonding of the metal water system. Look at 680.72 for switches and recep.- basically they are installed by chapters 1-4.
