Spa / Hot Tub Disconnect

I'm trying to get plans through a city plan check. It's a small city and they've outsourced the plan check to a local architecture firm.

The homeowner wants a packaged spa on a deck outside the master bedroom. The plan checkers are saying the disconnect needs to be at least 10 ft. from the inside wall of the spa.

680.12 says the disconnect needs to be accessible and within sight. 680.22(A)(1) says RECEPTACLES serving the pump motor need to be at least 10 ft. away, or 5 ft. if they meet certain criteria. There's no recptacle here, just LFMC from the disconnect to the spa.

Where's there a rule that says the disconnect needs to be at least 10 ft. away? The deck dimensions are only 15' x 9', so I'm running into some problems.

I would appreciate any help with the required clearance for the disconnect.

Thanks,

David

spa

spa

with the spa panels that i have installed, the package/box instructions indicated that the panel needed to be 5 feet away(680.41) lfmc is only permitted in lengths up to 6 feet(680.42a1).

680.41 Emergency switch for spas and hot tubs, this requirement shall not apply to single family dwellings.

True

But in the 2005 code, 680.40 states spas and hot tubs shall comply with the provisions of part I and IV of atrticle 680. 680.42 says outdoor hot tubs or spas shall comply with I and II except as permitted in 680.42(A) and 680.42(B). Within part I is 680.12 which requires a maintenance disconnecting means that is readily accessible and within sight of all utilization equipment other than lighting.

Emergency switch and disconnect are not the same thing; we know what a disconnect is.

The emergency switch is like the big red kill switch most self-serve gas stations now have.

I think most gas stations have them, but the one's with an attendant just have the EPO behind the cash register.

re: Indoor Hot Tub local disconnect?

re: Indoor Hot Tub local disconnect?

I am running power to an indoor 110vac hot tub on a remodel job.

Hot tub area is being installed in unfinished area by general contractor.

Does an indoor hot tub require a local disconnect?

Can a GFCI receptacle 5+ feet away count as a disconnect?

What about a 220vac indoor hot tub?

Thx.

Ted

hot tub on 100 will take forever to heat and i dont think they
will heat if pump is on either.
hard wire it for 220v no gfi needed
hard wire it for 110 no gfi needed
