I understand the 2020 code requires "whole house surge protection " for new electric.
I have very little experience with this .
There are some spd's that are rated @ 25ka to 108 ka labeled whole house surge protectors. I don't understand the size difference and how this works. Looking for some information on this subject here.
Thanks for any help

There are 3 types of surge protectors and each have their application. Research type 1, 2 ,3 surge protectors. Most service entrance protectors used for this code requirement are type 2 and connected to a branch breaker. A type 1 can also be used in place of a type 2 and be connected to a branch breaker. The real issue with type 1 on the line side of a service disconnect is their is usually no way to connect it in a compliant manner.
