Came across this in spec.

"essential emergency circuits (Life safety and Critical in rigid conduit) or luminaire in circuit."

Is Life Safety and Critical circuits defined and clear in the NEC?

What type of facility is the area/building ??'
If it's healthcare:
517.19 is Critical Area, 517 Parr III is Essential.

That requirement sounds more like a critical operations area. If so:
If it's a "Critical Operation Center", then Art 708 specifically 708.10

I know of one large hospital that requires RMC and IMC for Critical and Life Safety feeders and has it written into all their new construction and renovation specs.

It does not apply to branch circuits though.
