Splicing 500 MCM to parallel 3/O

I was wondering if it would be legal to splice into a run of 500 MCM with 2 - 3/0 cables. I have a situation with some older switchgear (pre 1982? code change for wire bending space). I need to get the conductors to a CT can and back to the disconnect. The wire is very stiff and there isn't much room. There are 8 500 MCM on a 600 Amp breaker in 2 3 1/2" conduits. I would like to splice the 500 MCM in the top of the switch gear. Each 500 MCM would be spliced to 2 - 3/O wires which would run in 4 - 2" conduits over to the CT can and then 4 - 2" conduits back to the swith gear. The engineer specified parallel 500 MCM due to the distance of the run (350'). The distance from the CT cabinet and back is less than 15'.
Would this be NEC compliant? If not, what would be?
Thank you,
Gregory

If the 500's are in parallel, then you must tie both 500's to the four 3/0s. The 500's must be connected together on both ends.
