Does the NEC take exception to splicing equipment grounding conductor running with phase conductors in a conduit? I have a client design criteria which prohibits splicing any ground conductors. I wanted to verify if NEC agrees before challenging the client requirement.

There is actually a requirement to splice an equipment grounding conductor anywhere circuit conductors are spliced in a box - 250.148

There is nothing in the code that says we cannot splice the EGC, however there are rules about not splicing a grounding electrode conductor.

Agreed! I think the OP has the 2 terms confused.
Perhaps a look in Article 100 at the definitions for grounding conductor, equipment and grounding electrode conductor will clear it up.

The term grounding conductor no longer exists in the 2011 NEC. It was in previous editions but no one knew what it was.
What color is it and what does it do?
