Splicing SER Cable

I need to size a box to splice 12 (6 in, 6 out) type ser cables, and I don't find a specific code reference to guide me. The cables are 1,1,1 with a 6 ground. I looked under 314.28 for pull boxes, but that hardly seems big enough, considering what I am doing. Am I missing something, or am I on my own to size the box?

Keep in mind that what you are looking at is the minimum required by the code. I don't know of any rule that prohibits making the box a lot bigger than the minimum size. I know I've pulled some wires in code-compliant boxes and conduit and was surprised that such a tight fit was legal.

For this reason, I rarely use the minimum allowable size conduit or box anymore.

box size

these days it seems my brain takes walks at times, but after reading this question, i decided size the box for those SER cables and discoverd that I really didn't know how to do so. An OLD conduit man, I calculated many a raceway associated run by conduit size, and many cables #6 and smaller by(314.16B).
How does one approach sizing cables with #1 wire ?? convert to conduit size ??

sorry for my stupidity here.....older i get, less i know

According to the last paragraph of 314.28(A)(2) that is correct.

"When transposing cable size into raceway size in 314.28(A)(1) and (A)(2), the minimum metric designator (trade size) raceway required for the number and size of conductors in the cable shall be used."

Not a problem, I find that I sometimes read too fast and overlook important items within the code as well.:)
