Morning all,

Ok, did a search and can't find anything about where it says that split bolts, specifically, can not be used below grade or that they must be used as listed other than 110.14(B)---am I missing a reference or is that it?

TIA,

Rich

That is all there is.

Thanks Don--Just wanted to make sure I wasn't missing something

The biggest thing that most miss about split bolts is the fact that most of them are listed for use with only two conductors, a few are listed for use with 3 conductors, and I have not seen any listed for use with more than three conductors, but I have seen a lot used with more than 3 conductors.

A split bolt is similar to the correct wire fill in a box, as long as you can get the cover on, you are OK, or as many wires will fit...
And to restate what Don said, all the split bolts I have used are good for two conductors. And a 4 solid split bolt is not listed for 4 stranded.

I've used a lot of the Ilsco IK6 split bolts for equipotential planes in dairy barns. So they DO make some that can be used below grade.

Thanks for the answers guys--Got it worked out--they are using DB rated -- so it's not a problem
