I was at a condo today with a 150 amp split bus panel. During a remodeling project a subpanel was installed next to the main panel. The sub panel is fed by a 70 amp breaker in the upper part of the split bus panel. In addition to the 70 amp there is a 70 amp (heat) 40 amp (range) 40 amp (heat pump) etc.
So, how are the service conductors protected if someone overloads the top part of the panel?
