Split wiring for cooktop and oven. Ive seen a few old ones wired this way. Is this a tap rule? A 50 amp wire to a jbox and hardwired to 2 different units. Is this still up to code?

Ahhh... Never saw that. Was the requirement less than 20 amps added recent? I have an existing installation with a 6.7kw and a 3.2kw. Which would not meet the under 20 amps. Thanks for the enlightment

I think you missed the word "not" in the exception. The tap conductors need to have an ampacity of "not less than 20 amperes", i.e. at least 20 amps.

Cheers, Wayne
