Split wiring for cooktop and oven. Ive seen a few old ones wired this way. Is this a tap rule? A 50 amp wire to a jbox and hardwired to 2 different units. Is this still up to code?

I think you missed the word "not" in the exception. The tap conductors need to have an ampacity of "not less than 20 amperes", i.e. at least 20 amps.Ahhh... Never saw that. Was the requirement less than 20 amps added recent? I have an existing installation with a 6.7kw and a 3.2kw. Which would not meet the under 20 amps.

Well, I may have misunderstood. But I don't see any problem using the exception to feed a 6.7 kw load and a 3.2 kw load. You just need to use 20 amp conductors to feed the 3.2 kw load to meet the exception.I think that was what he meant
