Looking for shop owners or employees who give or receive any time of reward for performance or outstanding work. What type of incentives if any are they giving to employees who go the extra mile. Is it on a weekly or monthly basis. Is it monetary or prize. Just trying to keep people motivated and motivated

I've learned jsut basically don't be a POS boss. Every now and then 100$ cash for gas to show appreciation. If they finish early on a job you billed for the day anyway send them home.

Christmas bonus etc. basically a little bit more often goes a long way. IMO

I would add that you should join them in the trenches once in a while. One company I worked for I was in attics and crawl spaces with the owners. The other, well, he made sure that I knew that I was the help.

I've never been motivated by gimmicks. I want good pay including bennies right at the top of the going rate, and to be left alone to do my job. Take me to lunch four or five times a year if I'm doing well for the company. Be ruthless about firing people who are a drag on the company. Promising a bonus is too much like working on commission and I don't want to do that.

I'd tell my crews...the sooner you this done(quota/workload for the day) done the sooner you go home, and still get their 8's... 9 times outta 10 they would get 8 hours worth of work done in about 5.5 to 6 hours....See you tomorrow folks. Ive never missed a deadline or turnover and all bonus's or "Demo work not in the Bid" was split amongst the crew! Biggest to date was $7500 amongst 8 guys. Every1 was happy! But that was the days of Old..... Pm's hate me but Customers love me! Never had any Major complaints ever.

I worked for a company of 140 guys in the 90s and they had me where I needed to be....

My pay was good
Bennies were really good
Bonuses were good

I appreciated all of it, but for me the single biggest motivator was not having to ask for a raise. It was always on time.

I think it is a really bad idea to give out awards for subjective things to individuals. People like to get noticed for doing good work but if that notice is not based on some metric that people understand most will assume it is favoritism.

I think being honestly appreciative of people's work and and occasional pizza go a long way. Especially if the pizza is just cause. No real reason but you appreciate them.

The plant I work in has quarterly pizza parties, sometimes w/ pot luck deserts. During the party the president talks about how things are going, and hands out thanks and a small gift card to people w/ 5, 10, etc. years. $100 at 5 years for me, and then $500 at ten years. I don't know if everyone gets the same. Not uncommon to see 20 or 25 years. Yearly raises.
About 150 employees, in manufacturing.
