If you mean the screw-heads in the centers of the sockets, no, those are the factory center contacts.

They're just lock rings. If I have a need for 'em I'll use 'em. Otherwise, into the trash bin they go.

well we know an electrician surly didn't do that work. That's some pretty ugly workmanship.

Guys, this workmanship is not that unusual. There should be a mud daubers nest and mouse skeleton in there where it crawled in via a missing connector.

Here you go...



Got the mud dauber nest. No dead mouse, just the mouse pantry. There were no connectors in the 3/4" knockouts on the octagon box, so the critter highway was 4 lanes wide.

Dug this gem out of my detached garage. Wiring was a cluster, EGC's all cut off, reversed L and N, romex subject to damage, etc. All since replaced with EMT, and passing through a 20A GFCI; there is currently no EGC connected at the house end. The 12 gauge UF going to the house is tapped off a 15A bedroom circuit. I hope to take care of that this month.
