I am starting a new industrial remodel job and on the exterior wall there is a fire protection drain valve that you turn manually. My question is how close to the valve can I get with a 2500 amp 480 volt 3 phase switch gear.

Valve alone - IDK, NEC wouldn't have any restrictions I am aware of.

Another consideration is whether this is just a valve in a pipe line or if it is on end of piping and drains into open space after the valve - that may make a difference in needed water infiltration protection of equipment in that vicinity.

I'd do an RFI and get it in writing so it's on someone else.

If you snap and post a picture we may be able to help you further, but again, it's better to put the responsibility for these things on those doing the work under that trade.

Sounds like it might be an inspection loop. If that's the case it's nothing to worry about. Fwiw I've never seen sprinkler system drains terminate anywhere other than outside.

At my former employer, service techs frequently found them terminated in a janitor's slop sink. It's amazing how high the water will bounce of the bottom of the sink when that 1/2" orifice is wide open. :eek:hmy:
