the handbook says sprinkler protection is allowed if it complies with 110.26(F)
(1)(d). this refers to dropped ceilings. exhibit 110.19 shows sprinkler piping not entering the dedicated or working space but that it is afforded either space. does this mean sprinkler piping can be in either space as long as it serves this space and does not just pass thru the area? am i reading this right that sprinkler protection is the only thing that can penetrate the dedicated space and that no drain pan would be required? thanks

The "dedicated space" indicated at 110.26(F)(1)(a) is the space equal to the depth and width of the equipment, not the room space. So if you took a plumb bob from the floor to the structural ceiling at the corners of the equipment this would designate the actual dedicated space. The sprinklers could be located outside of this space.
