Possibly,

The answer to this question won't come from the NEC, this would be a building code question and depend on a variety of varibles, such as building type, allowable area, and so on.

GEON,

You mean somewhere in the world ? Maybe, If the fire sprinklers are going off

logic would indicate the the fire department should be notified fairly soon.

Is there a situation where a building is sprinklered and a fire alarm system is not required.

Maybe if the sprinklers are for watering plants. Green house. Or do you mean fire sprinklers:grin:

I have worked on a number of buildings that have a fire sprinkler system and no fire alarm system. In most cases these systems would have a water flow alarm bell, but no fire alarm system and no automatic contact to the fire department.

Sprinkled

Sprinkled

It's deffinetly a building code issue, here in Mass sprinkler system or supression type systems (gas stations, over fryolators ie. Ansul ) shall be monitored through central stations and or directly to fire dept.

Depending on AHJ and their adoptions of the NFPA documents: short answer is under 100 sprinkler heads (I think) the sprinkler system does not need to be monitored. It is when you reach that magical 100 that you are required to install a monitoring system. I believe the answer to this question is in NFPA 13but it might also be found in NFPA 72 (13 is more likely).

Frank,
No I do not consider those items a fire alarm system. Also I have never seen a tamper switch used when there was only a local flow indication device.
