Wondering if anyone can Identify this Bolt Type? It's from an older piece of Square D Switch Gear (The building was constructed in 1971). Currently installed are 1/2" x 3" bolts and need to be replaced with 1/2" by 3 1/2" to accommodate lugs for a tap. Inspector wants the Bolts replaced with the EXACT same bolts. However, no one can clearly identify what Bolt Type this is (Class or Manufacturer Stamp). We know what can be used by today's standard but need to satisfy the AHJ.

Taking a shot in the dark here.....We've Gone through multiple bolt manufacturers and SG manufactures, no one thus far can identify. Working on getting SquareD to clarify but I don't have much hope in receiving a response in time with how the operate these day.

How does this inspector expect you to find the exact bolts from 1971? A modern 1/2" bolt from Square D spec should be fine.

I Completely agree, Rob. Fortunately I just received a letter back from SquareD stating that Class 5 bolts are standard for the Bus (which we already knew) as backup.

Sorry for you man.
Match the thread pitch, use a grade 8 galvanized, put a Belleville washer on it.
What a ridiculous request.
I doubt square D knows where they were getting their hardware 40 years ago.
