We have one project where we install squareD isolation panel in an O.R. room, this isolation panel also connect to a remote annunciator panel.
(they are roughly 70 feet apart).

There is an alarm at the isolation inside O.R. room all the time, we checked at LIM monitor screen to see the fault current level and it does not even reach 4mA. (suppose the alarm will goes off when fault current reaches 5mA).

What is the possible cause for the=is alarm? Is it because of distance between isolation and remote annunciator panel too far? I know the wiring between these two panels is low voltage. Thanks!

It probably has selectable alarm levels of 2ma or 5ma. Are you sure it isn't set to 2ma?

Steve 66 is on the right track. Depending on the location of a jumper on the back of the LIM it will alarm at either 2mA or 5mA.

If you are already in alarm without any loads connected to the panel you may have other problems. A few of the common problems are:
1. The proper wire was not utilized for the branch circuits. A cross-linked polyethelene jacked wire, XLP, such as Rome Corp. FR-XLP should be used to reduce capacitive leakage.
2. No pulling lubricant should be utilized for any of the branch circuits as it will increase capacity leakage.
3. Only the surgical lights and receptacles should be connected to the panel. No general lighting or receptacles should be placed on the panel.
Any of the above issues will increase capacitve leakage on the branch circuits that the LIM is monitoring.

If none of the above are at issue I would recommend that you contact Square D at 1-888-778-2733 or your local sales office. They should be able to get you in contact with the Medical Products Group to assist in any additional trouble-shooting.

Square-D tech says because the remote alarm panel is currently powered from its isolation panel, however they are located too far apart (250' or more), that's why. They suggest to install and power the remote alarm panel from a separate transformer. Is this weird?

The LIM in the isolation panel internal power supplys a 5VA max, 12VAC source for the remote indicator, @ 250' I have a feeling v-drop is the issue

Select Literature Fullfillment - when the page opens perform a search on Document Number 43100-019-01A. This is the IB for Isolation panels. Page 19 contains a wiring diagram of a LIM with two remote indicators, one is powered from a separate source (Note #3).

Hope this helps.

What is the reason for the remote LIM for an OR? Remote LIM's / alarms are typically used for ICU's, CCU's, and areas that have patients but do not always have staff in them. Patients are not left unattendend in OR's so the local alarm is all that is needed. A remote LIM / alarm for an OR is kind of like having a Code Blue button in an OR, the responders and equipment are already there.

FWIW, we were called for this same problem once, SQ D equipment, after disconnecting the remote LIM's the problem was gone.

In some cases the actual OR panel is not located in the OR room itself, it may be located out in the hallway and power (2) rooms. In this case the remote alarms would be placed in each of the OR rooms themselves.
