I have a question regarding these two add on lugs.
I had one of our maintenance electricians come in and ask me why one was rated 100amps and why one was 70amps. I told him I could only make an educated guess that the it was based on connection method and cross sectional area. the LK100AN has a much greater contact area with the Neutral bus than does the LK70AN.

So being the lab rat I am I had to the ask the next question which is "why are you asking?" It turns out the he needs to add a 100amp lug and to an older Square D panel. The LK70AN evidently would fit with the by just slipping the tow terminals into the neutral bus but he had a concern that the the 100amp lug would not fit. Evidently the new QO panels use a a larger landing screw than do the old one. The designer in me says that you could use the newer lug on the older neutral bus with the smaller screws given you could find an appropriate machine screw to hold it to the bus. On the other hand the part of me that is trying to learn the NEC code ( hey whats one more with all the ANSI/IEEE/IEC ones I am required to know) wants to ask if this would be a code violation since the LK100AN is marked clearly in the instructions for Series S__ panels and he is trying to add it to a Series L QO panel.

I am being overly paranoid? Any suggestions would be welcome.

"Would it work" and "has it been tested for that" are 2 separate questions. The "would it work" question is what 98% of the installers are going to ask. The "has it been tested for that" is what 100% of the attorneys are going to ask, if a hazard results from installing it.

I obviously get caught up on the "has it been tested question" as it dictates a good deal of what I do for work.

What do you do as far as the practicality of this issue?

It seems to me that most installers would be inclined to make it work or use a spare lug from another panel, etc. while assuming the answer to "will it work?" is "yes".

According to my Square D Digest, the LK70AN has a wire range of 12-2 AL 14-4 CU AWG, and the LK100AN is rated 6-2/0 AL/CU AWG.
