Square D Saflex Distribution board.

Does anyone have any experience Square D Saflex boards. I have a 400 amp 3 phase 240Vac Square D QMB Saflex distribution board. This thing is straight outta Slate Rock manufacturing, Q.C.d by B. Rubble. It has (8) 100 amp fused buckets. We are trying to feed a 225 amp panel. All I can find for this board are 200 amp buckets. Is it possible that this board does not have anything larger than 200? Our supplier sent a QMB KAW bucket but it does not fit the window or mounting frame.

Yes, the gear can handle the load. We are have remove all but 2 of the old 100 amp loads.

Square D has used the term QMB for all of its fusible switches since the 50s.
During that time they have had many different versions which are not compatible with each other. For all intents any QMB product sold since the 90s is not compatible with those older units even if the catalog numbers are similar. You really need to also know the revision number, like D2.

The oldest QMB panels had their fuse units mounted on rails that turned inward and the bussing was round. The units for this style equipment were obsoleted back in the early 80s. The next generation of QMB units mounted on rails that were turned outward and extruded bussing was introduced. This stuff lasted into the 90s and there was some compatibility with the other generation of devices. By the 20s the mounting rail resembled a saw tooth design so units were no longer backwards compatible.

Yes, this the old stuff with the clip in round bussing. My issue is there seem to be two different configurations, as you suggested. The re-manufactured buckets for my gear, Saflex, are 19" by 6" or 19" by 18". The mounting rails are just standard bars, vertical, with holes parallel to face of gear like the cover mounting in a typical gear. The other configuration with round bussing KAW is 22-1/2" x 6" or 12" and seems to have an angled mounting bracket and guides, almost as if it slides into some kind of lever lock hold down.

My question is, do you think that QMB Saf;ex does not except any buckets over 200A?

I have found they made a 225A breaker housing as far back as the 60's, but I could not find the part number.

The part you got is for the newer style mounting rails, so it is probably a series E, not the series D you need.
