Does the NEC reference standard conductors colors?
From google,
I've found the following,
120,208 and 240V - L1 - black, L2 - red, L3 - blue, neutral white
277 and 480V L1 - brown, L2 - orange, L3 - yellow, neutral grey

but no information for 4.16kv, any suggestion where to look?

There were color codes but removed in mid 70s. I have not seen any discussion on this forum for 4kv colors.4kv is not in my wheelhouse

There is a lot of red, blue, white in my area for the ungrounded conductors of 5kV systems....older installations. As far as I know white was never permitted for that, but was common around here.
Typically we just use black, red, blue, or brown, orange, yellow now. If someone cannot tell those conductors are not 208Y/120 volt or 480Y/277 volt systems, they really have no business looking at the wiring.

The NEC only has the following colors specified.

Green - EGC
White or lt gray - grounded conductor
Orange - high leg

That's it I think. Everything else is just convention and varies from place to palce.

There are a few sections that specify colors, 517.160 actually calls for Brown, Orange, Yellow
