If you had to choose between the two listed residential Calculations (Non-multi family). which would you prefer:
1. Standard or

You need to add another option on the poll: I'd do both, and use the smaller of the two answers.
 
Agree with Charlie b, we normally do about 300% overkill on a house in the name of safety. If you doubt it - turn every light, appliance including range and dryer, motor, and heater on in your house, meter it, then tell me why we need a 200A panel again?
 
I personally feel the code should not provide a standard and optional method for calculations This implies a design consideration which is not the intention of the code.

There should be ONE minimum calculation, and anything above and beyond that one method is design.

JMO.

I think, to the contrary, that they should add a few more methods of calculating the service/feeder size so that you could pick from say 1 of 5 different ways to do the load calc. It would be tons more fun on exams too.
