HI ALL
we need an weather proof encloser in accordance to UL 514 A refers matallic boxes.But the contractor suggests splash proof IP54 (rigid plastic) conform to IEC 669-1.
My questions
1)is contractor's suggestion is valid?
2)IEC 669-1 stands for what?

Typically, IEC standards and UL standards are used in different countries. The local electric codes are usually written with one or the other in mind.

IEC 60669-1 is the "Switches for household and similar fixed-electrical installations". Unless this is a light switch or similar, I don't know how this standard would relate to the IP rating. (A preview is available on their website: www.iec.ch)
