My customer is supplying a 3- phase 480 volt 1000 amp generator with an automatic transfer switch which will be used to feed a 3- phase 480 volt 400 amp panel when power is lost. The generator will be portable so I want to know if I can use portable power cable laid on top of the ground to connect from the generator to the transfer switch which will be mounted outdoor. Can I use portable cord type G, G- GC, PPE or W.

Be sure the breaker on the generator is reduced to 400A trip so when on generator, it is protected at its rating.
