I have a question about a generator.
It's a 80 kw 300 amp breaker feeding my 200 amp ATS and electrical service. Can I put a 200 amp fusible disconnect down the line of the generator to step down from 300 amps to 200 amps to protect the 200 amp ATS and service?
what code reference would be about installing a disconnect down the line from a generator before the ATS?

Article 240 overecurrent protection, start at 240.4
Your 200 amp disconnect will need to have lugs for the 300 amp wire.
Also you likely won’t have a lot of load on that 80kw genny, a typical 200 amp resi service may only be 24kw, so you will want a way to load the genny for a monthly excercise, esp if it’s diesel. I like to see gennys loaded at 50% for 1 hour monthly exercise

The system is 120/208 3 phase
Pulling about 33kw
They wanted a 80kw for future growth.
The existing 120/208 200 amp service is still being used that’s the reason for stepping down the amperage being supplied from the 300 amp cb on the generator to the 200 ats and service
