Per section 701-11(e), connections are are permitted aheda of the main service disconnect with approval from teh AHJ.

Anyone know if there are distance limitaions to this tap ahead of the main service disconnect?

Re: Standby Systems

Article 725, in my mind, gives the limits. "...ahead of and not within the same cabinet, enclosure, or verticle section..."
This seems to limit it to ahead but not in the same enclosure. I don't think any AHJ would consider a disconnect in another building as meeting this.

IMHO

Re: Standby Systems

Understood. What i am looking for is the distance limitations of the tap ahead of the main service disconnect for a standby system. Does this tap need to comply with the distance limitations for taps noted in other sections of the code?

Re: Standby Systems

If this service is going to be run any real distance before the service disconnect the inspector will require these conductors out side of the building.

Because there are no service disconnects or over current protection before this point their will be no limitations on distance this conductors can be run.
